Watcher: Stock Signals

A personal market monitor — portfolio signals, SEC filings, and macro context, computed on your device.

Frequently asked questions

How do I start?

Search for a ticker and add it to your watchlist. Mark the ones you actually own as held to unlock allocation, cash, and profit tracking on the Positions tab. Signals, charts, and filings appear as the app gathers data.

Why does the app ask for my email on first launch?

Company filings and fundamentals come straight from SEC EDGAR, the U.S. regulator's public database. The SEC requires every caller to identify itself with a reachable email address in the technical header of each request. Your address is sent only to the SEC — nowhere else — and you can change it any time in Settings → SEC EDGAR. If you skip it, everything except filings-based features still works.

Do I need any API keys?

No. Prices, filings, contracts, and news work without any keys. Two optional integrations use your own free keys: FRED (macro data series) and Finnhub (real-time quotes). Keys are stored in your device's Keychain and sent only to those services.

What are the BUY / HOLD / SELL chips?

They are signals from the app's scoring rules — summaries of trend, momentum, risk, participation, sentiment, and fundamentals. They are informational estimates, not investment advice or predictions. You can inspect and re-weight the scoring under Settings → Signals engine.

Where does the data come from?

Public sources: Yahoo Finance (quotes and history), SEC EDGAR (filings and fundamentals), USAspending (government contracts), FRED / BLS / BEA / U.S. Treasury / Federal Reserve (macro), Frankfurter (currency rates), and public news feeds. Nothing comes from — or goes to — a private server.

How do alerts work?

The app checks your rules on-device and posts local notifications. Nothing is pushed from a server. Fired alerts land in the Alerts tab, and you can tune rules, thresholds, and Quiet Hours under Settings → Alerts.

How do I delete my data?

Everything lives on your phone. Settings → Danger zone → Reset all data clears it, or delete the app to remove everything it stored.

Investment note: Watcher is an informational tool. Its signals, scores, and projections are estimates computed from public data — they are not investment advice, and no outcome is guaranteed. Make investment decisions with a qualified advisor.
